Once minute everything had been fine and the next minute a deer was in the middle of the road and Dean was swerving to miss it. He careened off the road, losing control of the car and slamming into a copse of trees.

He came to later, blinking and looking around in confusion. Blood dripped down the side of his face and into his eye. After a few minutes he got out, looking at the car before heading off down the road without looking back.

The next few hours and even days went by in a blur. He'd found help and had been taken to a hospital a few towns away. He'd been admitted as a John Doe, but a nurse named Tammy befriended him, enjoying his laid back attitude before helping him come up with a new name. In the end he'd picked Jack Spencer. Something about the last name made his heart clench, but he ignored it.

Time went by. Sam tried to find him, panicked. He'd called Eliot, leaving message after message, each one more desperate than the last. Eliot, Dean's missing. Call me. I'm looking for him. Eliot, please call. I found the Impala...it was totaled. Blood everywhere, but no sign of Dean. Eliot, please man. I've been everywhere. I can't find him. Its been almost a month! Bobby's got the Impala, but...I don't know man. I'm so fucking worried. The messages just went on and on.

Dean settled into a new life as Jack Spencer, but he was miserable. He barely made friends. He barely did anything between going from work to the bar to home.

It had been a long job, one that required patient recon and infiltration in a country where cell reception simply didn't exist, so Eliot had to do without. He missed Dean, but in a place where the closest thing to a land line was a publically shared post office, he was afraid he had to go without.

So a month later, it was debatable who was more glad to be out of there, the hostage he was sent to retrieve or him for being able to finally go home to his Alpha.

Back in the world of civilization after a hot meal and a hotter shower, Eliot grinned and dialed into his mailbox. The first few messages were Dean, which made him smile a bit, but then he got to the one from Sam and any trace of smile dropped from his face. He skipped to the next message quickly, flying past any and all messages that wasn't from the younger Winchester regardless of what the job offer might be. Eliot's expression grew darker with each one as Sam grew more desperate.

He would know if something happened to Dean, wouldn't he? They have a bond, or whatever that was, and he would know.

After hearing the last one, Eliot didn't know whether to laugh or cry to know that at least Dean was alive. Couldn't remember anything, but somehow he still mattered enough that his Alpha renamed himself with his name.

Still, it was with a heavy heart that dialed for Sam to double check that Dean was still there and to give him an ETA. Then arranging for some top priority clearance, he was on a private chartered plane for Tyler, Texas that same night.
